Acoustic Guitar Lessons 10 Tips To Get You Playing Successfully
By: Ronald Hudgins
An acoustic guitar is similar to a classical guitar in looks. It has an almost hour glass shape and has a hollow body and both are made of wood. An acoustic guitar comes equipped with 6 strings.
There are several different types of guitar and hopefully I have described the one we are talking about so as you can recognize which one it is. And now without further adieu I give you 10 tips to be successful with your acoustic guitar lessons.
1. This is only my opinion but you should purchase a used guitar to begin. No offense but a lot of people start off with good intentions of learning guitar only to fall away. Don’t invest a large amount of money if you are not going to stick with it.
2. Some people say you need to find a local teacher that can give you a personal experience but the online world is producing some websites with very good tutorials and they keep getting better. Some offer 6 free lessons.
3. Be choosy who you pick to mentor you. Choose someone that wants to produce quality music and not someone who wants to be a popular know it all.
4. Get to know your guitar and all the parts of it. Learn to hold it comfortably as you will be holding it a lot.
5. You need to start by learning basic chords first. Also learn that there are different ways to play those chords. Did you know C chord can be played with more than 6 different hand positions? If you learn different hand positions for each chord it will help you transition from one fret to another.
6. Try to get to where you are not watching your hands. This will eventually help you master the chords in your mind. This is a great strategy to retain what you are learning and it will also help your hands to get used to the different frets.
7. If you are honest about wanting to learn to play acoustic guitar then this tip won’t scare you to bad. Practice 5 days a week for 2 or 3 hours this is necessary to learn and it will also teach you how to position your body where you don’t wear yourself out.
8. You are going to get calluses and there is no way around it. Build up those calluses and your fingertips will become numb making it easier to play.
9. Now that you have mastered the easy part we can put more attention to the harder part. Now it is time to master Barre chords are considered harder and that is why a lot of students skip them. Don’t skip them.
10. Never look at learning to play acoustic guitar as a chore. Enjoy what you are learning to do and if you feel like you need to break from it do so. Don’t push yourself until you burnout and quit.
