Here is an overview of the different concepts used while studying this subject.





Concepts Used In Chemistry

Atom - An atom is the basic unit of chemistry. It contains protons and neutrons that balance the positive charge of an atom. Several books provide information about this part of science. Element - Chemical elements refer to the substance. The number of protons found in nuclei of atoms constitutes an element. There are several elements like carbon, and uranium. There are 94 different chemical elements based on the number of protons.

Compound - Certain elements exist in combination in a ratio, which is referred as compound. For instance, water is a compound made up of a combination of hydrogen and oxygen.

Substance - Substance has a definite composition and set of properties. Most of the substances are a mixture, for example air, alloys, and biomass.

Molecule - It is the smallest portion of a chemical substance that has a set of chemical properties. Molecules are bound together by covalent bonds. A book on chemistry can be of great help if you wish to study this aspect of the subject. Several online sites offer textbooks at a reasonable price.

Mole - Mole is an amount of substance that consists of atoms, molecules and ions. The number of moles in a substance is known as morality.

Ions - An ion is a charged atom or a molecule that would have either lost or gained one or more electrons. Ions, when in gaseous state are known as plasma.

Acidity - Substance can be classified as acid or base. This classification is based on the chemical reaction that it undergoes.

Matter - Matter is also known as phase. Some of the common examples of phases are solids, liquids and gases.

Reaction - Chemical reaction occurs when a substance interacts with another substance or energy. The interaction between two chemicals could be in the form of mixture or solution.

Bond - In order to understand chemistry, it is important to understand bonding. Atoms that stick together in molecules or crystals are said to bond with one another. There are different types of bonds like ionic bonds, covalent bonds, and hydrogen bonds.

A book on the subject can be handy and useful for detailed study.
