You had a fight with your partner and now you have broken up with him or her. If you are thinking of winning back your ex, calling him or her twenty times a day or leaving desperate messages at the voicemail box are certainly not good strategies. These do work if both of you had a lover’s tiff or a minor squabble but if the differences ran far deeper, winning back your ex requires some serious thought.





Things can be slightly easier if your ex is still single and has not been dating anybody or seeing someone already. It could indicate that though your ex has broken up with you, he or she may still have some feelings left for you. Things get complicated when the number of your ex has started doing the rounds in the singles club. It could mean that your ex has put the relationship with you behind and is ready to move on. Of course, sometimes recently broken up people are coerced into dating somebody new by some of their close friends or family relatives.

Once you have decided on winning back your ex, the next step is to understand where things went wrong. It helps to analyze things in an objective manner because if you put your feelings in it, you will start viewing things from your perspective and that is of no help. If you feel your judgment can be clouded with your emotions, talk to a close friend or relative of your ex who can provide excellent third party perspective as well as the feelings of your ex.

Based on the feedback you get, think what could have been done by you in order to improve the relationship. If you are comfortable making those changes, try reaching out to your ex for a casual meeting. When speaking to your ex, do not let your emotions get the better of you. Instead, sound casual and friendly. Rehearse your lines if you want. If you ex hesitates to meet you or pushes back, try to convince him or her that there have been a few mistakes in the relationship but may be talking could sort those things.

Impress upon him or her that sorting out these things could be helpful for both of them even if the relationship does not work. Do not push your ex too much. Chances are that he or she will say yes if the person still has some feelings for you. Meet in a neutral and quiet place that does not have too much of romantic overtones. Initiate the conversation with some small talk and updates. Do not plunge into the main topic immediately. If this meeting was successful, get a commitment to meet again and take things from there.
