Copywriting How To Win Sales With A Waterfall Of Words
By: Gillian Fox
Your sales page or letter is the cascade of words and images that draws the reader in to your opportunity, its benefits and why they can’t do without it.
From the headline all the way through to the op-tin box that message is being reinforced and expanded.
Anyone who wants to market their products, services, seminars, DVDs, books etc on line needs words that LEAP off the page and grab the reader’s attention.
How long is the average initial attention span of a visitor to your sales page? Probably about 20 seconds – not long to make an impact and get them to stay.
So it’s vital that the headline states the “how, what and when” of your offer – for example “Learn how to do X with Y product in Z number of days”.
Copywriting forms the basis of all your internet marketing – that old phrase “you can’t sell if you don’t tell” is so true.
Writing sales copy is about using words - but not just as words – also as images.
Bold words, BIG headlines and eye-catching bullet points that get your message over to your customers.
What is the problem your potential customer wants to overcome, and how can your product or service solve that problem for him? Highlight those benefits to stir the reader into action.
Make sure your words call to people’s emotions – how will they feel when they have the benefit of your product or service?
That waterfall of words takes your potential customers on a journey of discovery - of you and your product or service, its benefits and how it will improve their life.
And during that journey make sure there are three clear calls to action.
Some people will read all the way through the body of your sales letter, others scan down and make up their minds quickly - they don’t want to have to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to buy the product or service.
So make it easy for them to take the step to purchase your product or service at different points in the sales copy.
And don’t worry, if you suffer from “blank page syndrome” then a skilled copywriter will help you by producing the “sales poetry” needed to make your sales pages stand out and deliver!
